About Artist
- Bio
ガラ(Gala) is a multidisciplinary (multicultural) artist.
Starting her path with a classical art education in Russia and carrying this base with her into emigration, relying on the accumulated knowledge and skill, Gala follows this, not always easy path. Fearlessness, search, comprehension and determination are her tools.
With French subtlety and Japanese diligence, she paves her creative path, taking with her the most necessary things: languages, cultural codes and visual signs that help her, like a road map.
Living and working in France since 2005 and feeling a kinship with Japanese culture, Gala signs her paintings ガラ in Japanese syllabic alphabet
Gala strives to reveal the boundaries of both external and internal.
Engaged in her art, broadcasting it through exhibitions and teaching, she went through important stages of transformation and growth.
Her works are in private collections in France, Germany, Russia, Lithuania, Hungary, Israel, Greece and the USA. - Artist's StatementMy art is born from an inner necessity - the impossibility of keeping silent.
Speaking different languages, Western and Eastern cultural codes (I grew up in Russia, live and work in France, dream of Japan), I have become a conductor of dialogue between cultures.
Combining artistic, scientific and spiritual knowledge in search of balance and energy, I create Worlds: Equilibrium, Freedom, Reconciliation and Love.
I called the method I follow "Mystical Accident". This process begins with Assumption, openness to nature, which matures, passing Liminality - the process of transformation, to Mastery.
It is similar to meditation, where Consciousness and Subconsciousness are connected, that is why Eastern Art with its philosophy and traditions, spiritual and visual, is so close to me, and therefore my paintings are states on the verge of figurativeness and abstraction.
My materials are simple, organic and environmentally friendly. Ink, tea, coffee - my fluidity. Cardboard is my solidity, my packaging and protection. Pencils and pens work with details and weave the "Text of Time", newspaper collages are its "Witnesses". Gold is its decoration and Glimpses, its Hope.
I also like to accompany my graphic works with Haiku - three-line poems in the Japanese style, striving to reveal the essence, or stories of my characters, uniting several drawings in one series.
My audience is open, curious people with a view of "Around the Earth", people who care about the Cosmos - internal and external. Speaking different languages in a broad sense.
I leave them the Freedom of Interpretation.
